The CLA Recent Call Committee is back with a two-part series with Simon Borys.
Simon Borys is a former police officer turned Correctional Lawyer. He regularly appears before the Parole Board of Canada and the Ontario Parole Board. He has extensive experience representing clients at all jails and prisons in Ontario in parole matters, habeas corpus applications, disciplinary court, grievances, and judicial review. Simon is also a Board Member of the Canadian Prison Law Association and Chair of the Association’s Advocacy Committee. He represents the CPLA in its interventions before the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. For the parole part of the series, Mr. Borys will discuss the differences between federal and provincial parole, how to navigate scheduling your parole hearings, the criteria that your client needs to know for parole, parole suspensions for both provincial and federal, understanding strategically which cases work better for provincial versus federal parole, temporary absences, parole conditions, and parole appeals.
