Justice S. McPherson  

Justice McPherson was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice in 2017.  After her call to the bar in 2002, Justice McPherson practiced law as a Federal Crown with the Department of Justice in Brampton.  From 2007 until 2017 Justice McPherson was in private practice in Brampton where she represented clients charged with criminal offences. Justice McPherson also acted as a standing agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada in Halton Region from 2013 until 2017

Justice N. Dennison

Nancy L. Dennison was appointed to the Superior Court of Justice in Brampton in 2018. She presides over criminal, family, and civil cases. She is currently one of the Criminal Case Management Judges in Brampton. She was born and raised in Guelph, Ontario. She received her B.A. from Western University and her LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. Justice Dennison articled at the Ontario Attorney General Crown Law Office – Criminal. Upon being called to the bar in 1997, she worked briefly as a Crown attorney in Newmarket and Etobicoke before joining the Federal Prosecution Service. As Federal Crown counsel, she conducted drug and tax fraud prosecutions as well as criminal appeals. In 2006, she became senior counsel at the Department of Justice. Her practice focused on constitutional law,
extradition law and mutual legal assistance law. In 2017, she returned to the Crown Law Office – Criminal, where her practice focused on criminal appeals and search and seizure law. As counsel, she appeared at all levels of court. Justice Dennison has written academic articles on mutual legal assistance and co-authored a book on extradition law. Throughout her career, she has regularly contributed to continuing legal education programs and is a dedicated mentor to younger lawyers and students.

Daniel Brown

Daniel Brown is a criminal defence lawyer and lead counsel at Daniel Brown Law LLP, recognized as one of Canada’s 10 best boutique criminal law firms by Canadian Lawyer Magazine. Since his call to the bar, Daniel has devoted his practice to criminal trials and appeals and has appeared at every level of court in Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada as both an appellant and an intervenor. Daniel co-authored Prosecuting and Defending Sexual Offence Cases from Emond Publishing and has also written articles for several legal journals and editorials for the Toronto Star on a wide range of criminal law topics. Outside the courtroom, Daniel mentors young lawyers and teaches Advanced Criminal law at Queen’s University’s Faculty of Law. He is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a specialist in criminal law and is a past President of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association.

Kelly Slate  

Kelly Slate obtained her J.D. from the University of Toronto in 2001 and was called in 2002. She commenced her legal career at the Crown Law Office Criminal Division as appellate counsel but moved into trial work in Peel in 2003. Spending most of her career as an Assistant Crown Attorney she took on the role of Deputy Crown Attorney in 2017. She has a trial specialization in sexual violence, child and familial homicides and child abuse prosecutions. She is a co-director of the Sexual Violence Crown School summer course. She is the Peel liaison with the CBSA for immigration matters, and expertise in public protest incident response and dynamic entries. She has previously been the co-lead of the Summary Conviction Appeal team and the Intimate Personal Violence team. Police education has been a focus of her career with involvement with developing and teaching courses for the Peel Regional Police, Ontario Police College, and RCMP. She is an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School instructing the Trial Advocacy course, coaching the Arnup/Sopinka Cup Moot team and instructor for the Osgoode Professional Development Program.
