Dealing with the media in the course of criminal practice can be a daunting prospect - especially for recent calls. In this special online seminar we're lucky to be joined by three of Toronto's top media experts who will be sharing tips from their side of the microphone and answering your questions. Register now for this interactive session that will run Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

This webcast event is open to CLA members called in 2013 or after as well as student members. There are only 85 spots available, so please make sure to register early.

This event will also qualify for one hour of substantive CPD credits.

FEATURING:

Wendy Gillis
For six years, Wendy Gillis has been covering crime, policing and police oversight for the Toronto Star. On the crime and police beat, Wendy led a team nominated for the 2016 Governor General's Michener Award for coverage of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit. She was also part of a group nominated for a Canadian Hillman prize for the Star's work on the police practice of carding. When not on the crime beat, Wendy has been sent to cover breaking news including the 2016 terrorist attack in Brussels and the 2017 mosque shooting in Quebec City. She won a National Newspaper Award (NNA) as part of a team for Breaking News coverage of Toronto's 2010 G20 summit. She has also been nominated for an NNA in 2013 for her coverage of the Lac-Mégantic train disaster, and as part of a team for the Star's coverage of the 2018 Yonge St. van attack.

Jacques Gallant
Jacques Gallant has been the Legal Affairs Reporter at the Toronto Star since 2016.  He is a graduate of Concordia University and joined the Star in 2013. He’s been part of reporting teams nominated for the National Newspaper Award and the Michener Award for public service journalism.

Tamara Cherry
Before founding her Public Relations firm, Pickup Communications, Tamara was an award-winning print, digital and broadcast journalist who spent the bulk of her career as a newspaper reporter, then as the highly respected Crime Specialist for CTV News Toronto. Her work has been published and broadcast on platforms across Canada. In 2019, she received a prestigious Best Local Reporter nomination at the Canadian Screen Awards.
